"The Monarch Possession" Added to 2009 Season!

Crosslove Theatre announces that we will add "The Monarch Possession" to the 2009 Season!

"The Monarch Possession," written by Artistic Director Mike Gilbert, had it's world premiere in 2005 when it debuted at the City Arts Studio Theatre, and earned praise by both audiences and critics.  That production was one of CLT'S most successful shows.  Audiences laughed, cried, and screamed through two acts of scary FUN!  One of the actors from that production, Joyce Kernodle, will take over the director's chair for this new production.

Production Information:

"The Monarch Possession"
A Revised Thriller by Mike Gilbert
October 2-4 & 9-11, 2009 (Friday-Sunday at 7pm; Sunday at 3pm)
Directed by Joyce Kernodle
Auditions: Friday, August 21 at 7pm and Saturday, August 22 at 1pm

"The Monarch Possession" is a thrilling tale about four actors who are forced to endure the most horrific time in the newly renovated Monarch Theatre.  Taunted and terrorized by a demon, these actors must put aside their pety differences and come together in order to survive.  Just in time for Halloween, this will be a great opportunity to bring your youth group or sunday school class for an alternative yet equally scary Halloween-themed show.  This new production will use a revised script, featuring new and revised scenes and new scares!

Director Joyce Kernodle has worked as a professional actress both on stage and screen, with credits from the Barn Dinner Theatre and theatres all across the country.  She holds a BA in Theatre from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Crosslove Theatre Says Goodbye to Founding Artistic Director

Crosslove Theatre officially announced on Monday, December 1, 2008 that founding Artistic Director, Mike Gilbert, will end his term with Crosslove Theatre effective December 31, 2009.

Crosslove Theatre was founded by Gilbert and business partner, Robin Heath, in April of 2004.  In August of that year, they entered the public arena with “God’s Favorite,” by Neil Simon.  In 2006, Crosslove Theatre became housed at Lindley Park Church, and in 2008, established a permanent performance space at the church.

“Crosslove Theatre has been a big dream of mine,” says Gilbert, “And I’m very pleased with where Crosslove Theatre is today.  When we started out, we had nothing but the lint in our pockets.  Now we have our own performance space, and can utilize two others if needed.  What other theatre company around can say THAT?!”  Gilbert has directed the majority of productions for Crosslove Theatre, and has written almost half of the productions offered.  “Crosslove Theatre has been an amazing journey, one that I will always remember.”

Gilbert’s planned resignation comes on the heels of a very successful Crosslove Theatre season that saw the highest attended shows to date.  “The reason I am stepping down is due to a number of factors.  One, I feel that it is time for another vision to take over.  My vision was to have a stable theatre company, producing shows in it’s own space.  That has happened.  Another reason, is because my personal life has made a turn in a new direction, and God has opened doors for me that mere months ago I never thought possible.”

Crosslove Theatre to Close its Doors

For Immediate Release.

On Monday, November 8, Founding and current Producing Artistic Directing Mike Gilbert made the heartbreaking decision to close down operations for Crosslove Theatre following the closing of the upcoming musical "One Bethlehem Night."  Reasons behind the closing of Crosslove Theatre stem from financial troubles for the theatre, as well as a lack of availability in leadership.  In November of 2008, it was announced that Mike Gilbert would be stepping down from his position as Artistic Director.  However, a suitable volunteer Artistic Director could not be found.  Gilbert worked hard to formulate some form of leadership for the theatre, but, in the end, realized it would only cause more trouble than good.  Mixed with the financial troubles and other unbeatable problems, Mike decided the best would be to go out with a bang: "One Bethlehem Night."

All the stops will be pulled for this show, and director Mike Gilbert is going to make this final production the best Greensboro has seen in years.  Even though CLT is closing its doors, we would like for the community to remember the good we provided for the last five years.  A "GOODBYE" party will be scheduled, most likely on Friday, December 18, for all those who have worked on CLT shows to say their goodbyes.
